About The Lemon Drizzle Sling
The lemon sling is a zesty, citrus-based drink with a long-standing place in classic cocktail history. Traditionally, a “sling” was one of the earliest mixed drinks, made with a spirit, sugar, water, and sometimes citrus. The lemon sling evolved as a bright, refreshing variation that centred lemon juice as the star ingredient. Its tangy, invigorating flavour made it a favourite in warm climates and social settings, and over time, the recipe has been adapted into both alcoholic and non-alcoholic formats—keeping the essence of the drink while expanding its audience.
In its original form, a lemon sling often featured gin or whiskey paired with lemon juice, a sweetener, and soda water. For non-alcoholic versions, the structure remains the same: bold fruit juice for acidity, simple syrup or honey for balance, and effervescence from soda water.
Crafting a non-alcoholic lemon sling at home is all about balance and nuance. Use freshly squeezed lemon juice as your base, adjust the sweetness to your liking, and top with chilled soda or tonic water. Served over ice with a lemon twist or herb sprig, a non-alcoholic lemon sling offers all the character of the classic—minus the alcohol.
